Great Play Set (if the price is right)...Mar 10, 2010

The Home One, Mon Calimari Star Cruiser (Limited Edition) is a wonderfully designed set. Great A-Wing Fighter, Hanger Bay and Bridge with Tactical Room are all well designed and highly playable. I found it to be a fairly easy but enjoyable build. Overall nicely designed with some neat features.
A-WING FIGHTER - Well designed ship. I feel an improvement upon the previous version. Good color scheme with some rich/dark green pieces, cockpit opens/closes with hinge (interior cockpit has printed screen design ala' Death Star trench run), 2 long flick-fire missiles, rear engines nicely designed and a neat feature...you can take out the red engine from the back middle section. It is held into position, left and right, by a very simple but effective hinge technique which closes and locks the engine into the vehicle. Once opened, the engine can easily slide out. Also the A-Wing has front retractable landing gear. And of course, the A-Wing comes with a neat pilot mini-fig with the classic Lego face and nice graphics for the torso and helmet (w/visor that can raise/lower).
HANGER BAY - Here in the Hanger Bay you have a large area to accomodate the A-Wing Fighter. There is a working crane accross the top of the Hanger which can slide left to right and uses a technique gear to raise and lower the 'hook'. The 'hook' can attach to the removable engine to raise it out of the back of the A-Wing to be worked on by your Mon Calamari mechanic mini-fig (which comes with a wrench). This mini-fig has a great head sculpt(captures the Mon Calamiri race perfectly). The A-Wing can be mounted to a long working technique piece with which you can move/spin the A-Wing 360 degrees as well as forward and backward. If you notice underneath the A-Wing are 2, 2x2 grey plates mid section. This helps mount the vehicle to the working technique. I suggest trying similar sized craft with the 2x2 plate addition to add more playability. In the hanger are 2 hoses which can be used to add fuel/energy to your vehicles or engine. And also there are 2 compartments on the Hanger deck to hold tools, weapons, etc.
BRIDGE/TACTICAL ROOM - The Hanger Bay is attached with a technique pin to the Bridge and Tactical Room. The front/forward Bridge has the command chair for Admiral Ackbar (a wonderful well sculpted head and front/back graphics...best new mini-fig from Lego). The well designed chair has a tactical computer that can mount over Ackbar's lap. The command chair is also mounted to a technique gear so you can move him forward and back as well as 360 degrees. Just so much fun to have him move, spin and survey the field of battle or turn to the back and get some coffee from his clear coffee cup (attached to the back rail). Left and right of the command chair are 2 other chairs with computer screens you can raise or lower to accomadate mini-figs. Below and back of the bridge is the Tactical Room. Wonderfully designed with a curved back section and 2 large holographic projectors pointing towards the center. In the center of the room is the holographic (trans orange)Death Star (I believe the pieces for this are Bionicle). There are also two platforms above (left and right), 2 exits with steps (left and right) plus 5 computers screens around the back curve section. You can put all your favorite characters here or the ones from this scene from Star Wars to review the weaknesses of the Death Star!
And before I forget we have some other great mini-figs...Mon Mothma with nice wig sculpt and white cape, General Lando Calrissian with blaster pistol and grey cape (awesome torso design) and General Madine mini-fig.
This is one highly playable set with working gears, crane, vehicle, removable engine, compartments, movable command chair, etc. Great play features for your kid or like me the young at heart AFoL.
The only 'con's' I can give are this...first off, it's extremely minor, is the name of this kit. They call it a Star Cruiser but why couldn't the name be Home One Mon Calamari Bridge and Hanger Bay? Secondly, which is extremely major is the original price point on this. At $110 US dollars it's way over the top. There aren't really any truly unique parts(besides the new Mon Calamari heads) even though the design and playbility is spot on. To make this set justify the high price, Lego should've provided 2 to 3 more mini-figs (another Mon Calamari , maybe an X-Wing pilot or another A-Wing pilot) and perhaps some unique pieces, chrome pieces, printed tiles for the computers. Just something more to make you feel you got $110 worth.
Now I picked this up for $80 US at Toys R Us and that to me is a fair market price. Now with all that in mind...this is one great play set! Nice features throughout with some nice unique mini-figs you enjoy immensely. I Highly Recommend it if you get it at the right price. A truly well designed and playful kit!

Got this set for my daughter(4) and me to spend time together. It is a great set with 3 major parts. My daughter forced me to start putting the Lego blocks together for her to play. It has been over a week now. She still play with it everyday. This is my third Lego limited edition set. Loved it.

You can't go wrong with Lego. My son is 12, and if he can't play football, basketball or go skiing any given day, he loves building Legos - always has. Of course the price of these large sets forces us to purchase them for special occasions only, but it's always on his list.

This set is one of the best I have ever built in my 20 years of collecting and building Legos. It is also one of the biggest. I do not recommend this set for younger children- it might be a bit too complicated for them. But for teenage collectors and above, this set is incredible.
The set, #7754, Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruiser includes six minifigures: Mon Mothma, Lando Calrissian (in cloud city clothes), General Crix Madine, Admiral Ackbar, a Mon Calamari mechanic, and an A-Wing pilot. Of these figures, Mon Mothma, Crix Madine, Admiral Ackbar, and the Mon Calamari mechanic are exclusive to this set.
The Star Cruiser is split into two main sections: there is a large hanger and a debriefing room, both of which are connected by three joints at the base and one three-hole technic beam on top. The hanger has a great little "A-Wing lift" mechanism of gears and a long cross-hair piece that allow a full 360-degree spin of the A-Wing fighter, which is included in the set (It is awesome, I might add, that it comes in a green and white color-scheme). The amount of detail in the garage is great- there are two storage areas in the floor, and a winch and line allow the mechanic to remove and adjust the engine from the A-Wing and replace it. One small complaint I have is that the instructions require tying the black string around a black camera-type piece that is used as a hook for the engine. I improved this with a 1x1 flat stud piece which goes on the end of the hook and effectively holds the rope in place, allowing the rope and pulley to be used for other things.
The debriefing room looks great as well- it was designed to have quasi-architecture around it and that is a very cool, very effective addition. it adds to the realism of the set. I the center of the room is a projection of the death star. This is exclusive to the set as well, as far as I know. On the second floor, overlooking the debriefing room is Admiral Ackbar's station. It is almost exactly like the place where you could have seen Admiral Ackbar while in line for Star Tours at Disneyland. (the old one, not the remake) Admiral Ackbar's chair works much the same as the A-Wing lift, although it is a smaller one.
Overall, this set is amazing! It has a lot of exclusive minifigures, a lot of detail in the set, and it has hours and hours of playability. I definitely recommend this set to anyone with a substantial Lego Star Wars collection, as a battle scene wouldn't be complete without the Rebels' base and debriefing room.

Here's an interesting addition to the Lego Star Wars collection that I never would have expected. The Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruser set isn't actually a ship set the way the X-Wing Fighter or Imperial Shuttle are. This is essentially two interior sections of what would be an impossibly large ship. With this set you get a section containing the bridge (where Admiral Ackbar coordinated the Death Star assault in Return of the Jedi) and the planning area (where said assault was planned) and a section with a repair bay, complete with an A-Wing Fighter. The set includes six minifigures (Admiral Ackbar, Mon Mothma, General Madine, General Lando Calrissian, a Mon Calamari Officer, and an A-Wing Pilot). When assembled, this is a huge set, with lots of moving parts and neat little details.
Complexity - The set includes 789 pieces, and is the most complex set I've built to date. The A-Wing Fighter is easy to assemble, but the repair bay and bridge area have several interlocking sections and moving pieces that require a fair amount of attention to detail. It took three hours to assemble everything, and in a first for me the set was actually missing a few pieces. Fortunately my son's collection contained adequate replacement parts.
Playability - If your child is careful, this is a great set to play with. The A-Wing is the sturdiest part of this set, and as such it's the one my son spends the most time with (that and the minifigures of course). He also has a lot of fun bringing pilots and mechanics (I made him a couple of repair droids) in the repair bay, and assembling the Rebel leaders to review the Death Star assault plan. Personally, I got a huge kick out of the way the A-Wing can rotate in the repair bay, and Admiral Ackbar's spinning command chair.
Price - I don't normally comment on price in my reviews, largely because I'm reviewing the product, not the going rate (which tends to fluctuate wildly over time). In this case, I'll echo what a previous reviewer has stated. This is a huge set, but at full retail it's probably not worth it. I picked it up at the local Lego store for half price, and was more than satisfied.
If you find this set for a reasonable price, it is well worth adding to your Lego Star Wars collection. The figures are great, the set has a lot of neat aspects, and it's nice to have the A-Wing Fighter available again.
