5This pet only gets your child online for one yearDec 14, 2007

This pet actually is a bit bigger than the description states. Sitting up, this pet is just over 8.5 inches at the ears. The pet only came in a ziploc bag instead of retail packaging. It would have made such a nicer gift had it been boxed properly.

How the pet works is you go to http://www.hasbro.com/littlestpetshop/default.cfm and click on "VIPS are here" to enter your online access code which can be found in the tag around the neck. This code will give you one year of unrestricted access to play games, feed your virtual pet, decorate your virtual house, and read the littlest pet shop newspaper. It's a great bargain compared to Toontown and other pay by the month kid friendly sites. Kids will have a great time earning points, called kibbles, and redeeming them to buy virtual things for their pets. Each VIP pet comes with 100 kibble in the account automatically.

If you are unsure if this is a toy your child will enjoy, you can still register, and then "borrow" a pet rather than adopt. You will be able to try out the games and see how the web site works before adopting a pet (i.e. Buying a VIP pet).

I found the games to be fun and age appropriate for 5-7 year olds. 8 year olds may even enjoy the site, as well as advanced 4 year olds but you will definately want to try out the site by "borrowing" a pet as stated above just to make sure this is right for your child.

The VIP dog is very soft and cuddly!

4Great Bargin for hours of funJun 02, 2008
By Laura "lolagranola91"
My 10 year old loves littlest pet shop and also loves animal computer games. For $7.50 she gets one year to play on line with her littlest pet - great bargin in my book. She also figured out how to visit her best friends VIP pet - so now they visit each other on line - she loves this toy!

5Littlest Pet shop VIP PetsMay 29, 2008
By Catherine Gallagher
This is the second purchase of The littlest Pet Shop VIP's for my kids. This will bring our grand total up to 4. Two per kid.

You can log on to the Littlest pet shop web site enter the code found on the collar. Name your pet and then log on to play.

When you collect multiple pets you can play bonus games that are only available as a premium member. By playing the games which are short you earn money. Then you can take the money you earn to buy items for your house and garden, or Food, and Clothing for your pet.

My kids get to play for 30 minutes daily after they finish their homework. They take that time to "care" for their pets. Feed them play with them etc. I think this a good start if you don't have a real pet that shows kids how to care for animals.

When I find 2 more at a great price like I found this and the turtle (We already own a cat and a monkey) I will be purchasing more.

5OP slightly mistakenMar 10, 2008
By G. Bieller "Toy addict"
This toy is alot of fun and the virtual world is good too.
Pets can interact with one another where the webkinz can not. there are not as many games yet but it newer and still growing.

the one thing though the other poster stated they got their animal in a zip log.
The retail packaging only comes with the pet and a tag on its ear.
The retailer probaly used the bag to keep the toy pristine. Peffectly giftable but just wanted to let others know they do not come in a box.

1BE AWARE no longer supported by HasbroJan 12, 2011

After receiving this we tried the online interactive code and found that the website didn't work. Called Hasbro who informed me that the website had been discontinued 2 months before I bought the toy, so now we have a 30.00 stuffed toy. Seller wouldn't take a return because it was a plush toy but Amazon gave a refund because the description on their website in incorrect.
