My first TamagotchiSep 01, 2010
By Jana Taylor I got this Tamagotchi through the Vine review program. I should disclose that I have never owned one of these, never played with one and I don't have much comparison between this and earlier versions which evidently were smaller.
Here is my opinion. Set up was easy - I didn't bother to read the directions and I was able to get it "set up" with current date and time, name and birthday.
Next the little animated character "hatched" and then I decided to look at the directions because pushing random buttons had no effect. So then I figured out how to navigate through the tamagotchi "world". Directions were easy and in under a minute I had navigated to a game called "cradle" where you drop things down on moving ledges and have to have the ledges catch the thing.
So that was ok. Not something I could do for hours but this would be quite distracting or entertaining for the younger set. Maybe 8 year olds up to 12 year olds? Maybe older - hard to know.
Screen was easily readable. The egg thing sits upright on it's own without a stand. The little characters easily slide right on top of the egg and are anchored firmly. I like the fact that the "door" is attached with a chain so you can't easily lose it.
Takes 2 AAA batteries. I don't know how long they will hold out since I just got this today. All in all this would make a nice stocking stuffer or small gift for a kid. I am sure they would have no problem playing this if I had no problem figuring it out.

Tamagotchis have put on weight!Sep 21, 2010

If you or your children are familiar with Tamagotchis then you know how they work. If not, well you have a virtual 'pet' enclosed in an egg-shaped toy which must be attended to. It will need feeding, (sometimes) cleaning up after it's done its business, playing with and nurturing. Fail to perform your parental duty and the little character in there will fall ill and actually expire. These toys were massively popular 12 years or so ago but that fad has diminished over the years and to see that they're still available is surprising, especially with today's 99 cent cellphone games.
More than a simple toy, the tamagotchi gives your child a job; it can teach the hefty responsibility needed to look after a pet without the pitfalls associated with getting a an actual living creature. Unfortunately, as with a puppy or kitten, the onus of responsibility of the virtual pet often wains quickly on your young one and the toy is discarded after a few hours for more interesting pursuits.
This particular Tamagotchi is notable for its size, I'd say twice as big and thick as traditional ones, and that's born out by the fact that it takes AAA batteries (which are not included) instead of the much smaller C2032 or watch batteries of older Tamagotchis. But with that said, you get a much bigger more useful screen. Plus you can change the face plate and you get an actual little character you can mount to the device which gives more empathy to the one shown onscreen.
So all in all if you want a game that teaches while it entertains you can't really go wrong with this.

My 9 yr. old daughter loves it!Sep 15, 2010

It has been hard to find toys that will keep my 9 year old daughter interested after she plays with them for a few days. I was given the chance by the manufacturer to review this product and hoped she would love it. I handed the Tamagotchi to her and then gave her the written directions that came with it. I did not give her any verbal directions. I was curious to see if it was "kid friendly" and easy to use. My daughter immediately started playing with it. She had no trouble figuring it out and played for over an hour. The only time she needed my assistance was in figuring out how to turn it off. You actually just pause it. She has had the Tamagotchi for a couple of weeks and has still not grown tired of it. She plays with it everyday. In fact, she just asked me this evening if she could take it to school. I am planning on getting her another Tamagotchi for Christmas, because the Tamagotchi's can interact with each other. I highly recommend this game!

Tama-Go is awesome!Aug 09, 2010
By TMGOfan Although the Tama-Go is bigger than traditional Tamagotchis, I find it to be better because it is easier to hold and stands up on its own. No need for a cradle! I love that you are able to change the faceplate to make it your own! Without question, this is the best Tamagotchi ever!

Takes a lot of timeDec 26, 2010
By zim First overall i liked this tamagotchi mainly becuase it is a lot more advanced than its predeccessors. First I will list the things that I like and then the things that I found distasteful.
What I liked: What I liked the most was the personalization and how you can change the background and the faceplate. This makes it you and not something weird. I liked as well how you can go on-line and there are more things to do. The removable characters and slot on top was cool too! Also lastly I liked the cut scenes in between going to places so you can see where they are going sort of.
What I disliked: I really did not like the size!!! >:( I know this is common among the ratings but it is a very big problem litterally. You'd think since it came from a very advanced country it would be smaller than it is. Other than that the problems are very insignificant from the characters being too expensive and not knowing where to find them. Also there are only two games. The last problem I thought was the faceplate, it was perfect the day I bought it then the next day all scratched up and stuff. I am a tama fan but if your not then it is still a good deal. Though I thought it does not give you much to do while it is growing.
