1Software is still in beta. Nearly impossible to download. Graphics are dated. Disappointing.Apr 13, 2009
By C. Cansler
My eight-year-old son was thrilled to get a Trackster for Easter. I wasn't thrilled that it was [...] for an oversized HotWheel, but for us it was all about getting a code so he could play the online game. Only after we registered did Tracksters mention (in the registration confirmation email) that the game is still in beta.

It was very difficult just downloading the Tracksters software. After trying everything we could to download using the links on the Tracksters site, we finally used a separate FTP client to get the software. After installing it, we still couldnt' log in; we kept getting a message to the effect that "Service Unavailable. Try Again Later." About 12 hours after first opening the package, we were finally able to get online.

As I said, the post-registration email states that the game is still in beta testing. It shows. More than once, in just a short time playing, my son's multiplayer race ended abruptly because of some sort of error. Our computer is well within the system requirements, but there was a noticeable lag in the graphics. Overall, I would say that the graphics are pretty good, if this was 10 years ago.

Tracksters has over-promised and under-delivered. The toy car is nice, but the game is a disaster. The software is currently on "version 1.6," which is pretty misleading: shouldn't it be "0.6," so we know--maybe even *before* buying--that Tracksters expects us to do their software testing for them? And even when the game is stable, it doesn't promise to be on par even with driving/racing games that are 5+ years old.

Avoid Tracksters.

3Great toy if you can get pass installation hurdlesMay 09, 2009
By Daniel C. Mcgauley
Got this as a gift for my son for Easter. The software would not install on any of my Vista machines. It installed on my XP laptop, but the laptop really couldn't handle the graphics. I finally pulled out an old XP desktop and it ran great, and it was a lot of fun. It was very difficult finding out how to enter codes from cards that we also got, but eventually figured it out and my boys now love it. Now that I figured it out, I'll probably buy them more Tracksters, but it sure was a pain to get it all up and running. I spent probably 5 hours on this which is pretty unacceptable, but it really is a cool concept. I hope they can iron out their bugs (and get the costs down a bit).

UPDATE:
My boys are still in love with Tracksters. They ask for a new one all the time. A recent update to the software almost derailed our trackster experience. We couldn't log in because we needed to update the software. We clicked the "update" button, but it gave us a nasty error. I tried reaching someone from tech support, but couldn't that evening, so I researched the problem on the Web. Lots of people couldn't update the software. Finally, I snooped around and found the ftp site for their firmware updates and manually downloaded it and all is well now. Their support team did call us within 48 hours. Tracksters reminds me of the Steve Martin bit, "Cruel Shoes." The toys are torturesome to get working, but sure are a blast for the kids when they work.

UPDATE UPDATE:
The ability to update the software from within the application is still not working. However, we just go to the web site and redownload the full app each time we have to update and it works fine that way.

1GOOD IDEA BUT........Apr 14, 2009
By Julie A. Fannin "jafannin"
The "Easter Bunny" brought my son a trackster. Just like the other reviewers we can not seem to get the game to download. We have contacted the company but are not getting any response. It is a great idea too bad it does not work. THE EASTER BUNNY WANTS HIS MONEY BACK!!!!

5My son loves TrackstersApr 30, 2009
By Linda Loika
I have a 6 year old son. He Loves racing online and with the actual cars. I did have a small problem downloading, but someone from tracksters got right back to me. I don't know if they have solved the problems the other reviews talked about; or what but my son is on the site all the time to race and we have not had any other problems. The only thing that would make them better is a local retailer.

1Don't buy this!Jan 01, 2012
By Mother Duck "quacker"
We bought 5 of these TRACKSTER cars for our kids and their friends in November 2011 for Christmas so they could race online. Cool looking cars but the website is no longer working (as I have found out now that I have been searching about the Trackster Website - some of the postings about this same problem are from 10 monthes ago!). This means you can't race them, design their exterior, or do anything with them online! So basically they are like $5 Matchcars but I paid $18 for each! Feel like I've been robbed!
