Favorite Animated Leader-Class TransformerAug 26, 2008
By J. Sterling This version of Transformers Animated Bulkhead is every bit the lovable lunk from the cartoon. As with the other Animated Leader figures I've purchased, I find no issue with the quality of construction of Bulkhead.
Although he lacks any sort of spring-loaded projectiles or features a-la Optimus's axe, this figure has plenty of gizmos to keep the kids entertained. Each hand has a special feature, be it a grapple claw or spinning saw blade, and there are four detachable rockets for folks that just have to launch something!
Robot mode is enhanced by the Headmaster accessory that changes the expressions used when you press the sound effects button. The Headmaster feature really does make this toy a three-in-one hit.
Conversion is easy and all pieces fit snugly. Bulkhead's truck mode is a better vehicle than the Optimus truck mode, in my opinion, as all wheels engage easily and roll rather than skidding across the floor.
All said, I think Leader Class Bulkhead is the best of the Animated bunch so far considering quality of construction, ease of transformation, extra features, and fun in both conversion modes.

Transformers Animated Leader Class BulkheadNov 02, 2008

I purchased 2 of these so I could reshell the arms to give bulkhead two normal hands. Both of these purchased here were sub-par. I've heard that Hasbro's got a lot of QA problems, especially after the first run of the figure. Both bulkheads had pretty bad scratches on the surface and one of them was missing a siren and a turret. Not too pleased about that.
On a general level the toy is awesome. After mod-ing him he's become a close-to-perfect bulkhead figure (although I'd much rather have a poseable head than the little animated mechanism/voice button).

Holds up well, easy to transformNov 29, 2009
By D. MCKICHAN This was purchased from Amazon as a present for my then 4 year old son for xmas 2008. It is one of the largest class of transformers and this class is better built then the smaller ones. It is very well made in comparison and has held up well to a years worth of playing now. It has rockets (the ones you can see on the outside of the wrists) that were lost long ago and the small shields that cover the head have been broken off, but overall it has done very well indeed. It is still one of the transformers my son will play with when he decides that is what he is interested in that day. More importantly for me it is one of the easier ones to transform and I don't fear the words "Daddy transform this for me" when he has it. I would recommend this one.

Bulkhead's a HitJan 09, 2009

My grandson is 3 and this brought him so much joy. It was the item on his Christmas list. He watched closely as his Dad "transformed" the toy over and over. It was mutually enjoyable and educational because very soon, he was able to work a lot of it himself.
Education benefit: Eye-hand coordination, sequencing, following directions, patience, cooperation.
Working with his Dad-- priceless!

Big and BulkyJan 06, 2009

Definitely a good size update for a figure originally released too small (Voyager, almost half size). Along with the size, additional features make for an excellent show-accurate figure. The Headmaster is a welcome gimmick, adding an extra phrase to the sound bank and allowing for a hilarious version of the robot mode. The only place I found this lacking has to do with what I consider a signature of Bulkhead's weaponry:
Wrecking Balls. The Voyager class included one fist that had a wrecking ball gimmick, allowing the ball to be fired and included a short string so you could play or pose the figure as if it were using it to smash some Decepticons. Not a deal breaker, and certainly an understandable change (if this were merely just a bigger version of the same mold, it would not be quite as excellent).
