5An "original" Transfan's review.Jun 03, 2007
By Jason B. Morgan "actionfigure73"
I've been a fan of the Transformers since their U.S. debut back in 1984, and what has impressed me the most about this Movie Line is the fact the Transformers are going back to their roots.

Robots In Disguise.

Transformers alt modes are now that of real, authentic looking vehicles, something that has not been seen since the early 80's.

Blackout was the first of this line I purchased, and I couldn't be happier.

He's a little difficult to transform at first, but gets easier. For the record, the above pic is wrong, his copter blades fold neatly against his back.

I can't wait for the movie to come out, it's been 23 years, welcome back.

5Quality and Build All Transformer Toys Should HaveJul 17, 2007
By Matt
Form Factor/Style/Size:
Blackout looks like the transformers should, robust, detailed, and full, unlike the stick figures of most transformer toys that I've seen. In robot mode, Blackout almost looks like a Japanese samurai (that's a good thing). I also like that Blackout's alt mode (MH 53 PAve Low Military Helicopter) looks so realistic. Just look at a picture of that helicopter and compare it to a picture of the toy, you'll see what I mean. While many complain that he is "small" for a Voyager Class, he makes up with great detail for an 8" tall plastic toy.

Fun Factor/ Playability:
I've had this toy for about 3 days and I'm having more fun with it every day. For example, recently I found a piece on his feet that folded out. I never even knew that piece did something until now! I also spend a lot of time changing his poses. The most fun part of playing with Blackout is trying new poses to make him look cool.

Quality:
Usually the quality of a line of toys declines after several years, but I'm rather impressed by the movie line TF toys. I transform Blackout back and forth about 5 times each day and still no loose parts so far. Paint job is good. Again, detail and accuracy is excellent.

4Transformers Movie (2007) Voyager BlackoutMay 02, 2012

I understand I'm extremely late writing a review for this one. If you're wondering, yes it really did take me this long to get one.Since Blackout came out in 2007 I have been going crazy wanting one for my display. Blackout is just friggin' awesome. He is one of my all time favorite Decepticons, I love how he looks, and you can't get more bad____ than transforming into a military helicopter.Well third to Optimus Prime and Barricade. You catch my drift. As we all know Transformers have the potential to gain value faster than the intrest rate on a title loan. Blackout is one of them. I hate that I missed out when he was 20 bucks, but I'm NOT paying anything over 100 for him. I got mine for 40 off Ebay. My first peice of advice you can find him cheaper on ebay...way cheaper.Anyway here is the review I've been dying to write.

Blackout transforms into a Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low combat search and rescue military helicopter.I seriously think that is a great choice for a Decepticon. Imagine your shipwrecked, miles out from land floating in the hot sun waiting to be rescued and loosing hope. Then you hear it. You hear a Helicopter. You think to yourself oh thank God I'm saved. Only to find out that rescue chopper is a Decepticon named Blackout. All hope is gone now. I'm sorry I just love the idea of the Decepticons transforming into Police Cars and Military service vehicles. Another think I like about Blackout is his character. You don't see to much of it in the movie but his character is better fleshed out in the prequel comics. Blackout is the big loyal brute who follows orders to the t. Much like Lugnut (I like Lugnut too for that same reason). This con isn't afraid to tell anyone to go f....well fill in the blank. He is just as loyal if not more than Soundwave to their leader Megatron. Lastly I love how he looks. He looks like a hulking terror from hell in his robot mode. But were going to start with his vehicle Mode.

Vehicle mode looks spectacular. Yeah the color isn't as accurate as the Premium Blackout but still. It's close.Blackout sports a couple nifty features in vehicle mode such as a mini non transformable Scorpinok that can pop out from the underside of the choppers tail. The Second is a lever that when pushed the propeller spins.Pretty cool.My only problem is, that has now been corrected thanks to Reprolabels is the lack of detail. Hasbro made a little bit of effort with the Premium Blackout but it still wasn't as detailed as it could have been. Reprolabels went all out to make this Blackout look super screen accurate in vehicle mode. Down the the names of the pilots on the side of the cockpit. If you have this Blackout and want more detail head over to Reprolabels to help you out. I recommend it.

Transformation is not as hard as you would initially think. Very simple and fun. The auto Transform gimmick really doesn't work with Blackout. It would have been so much easier just to flip the head back instead of popping the legs in place and the head popping out then. It seriously only saves you less than a quarter of a second worth of time. Kinda pointless. Im not saying I don't like the gimmick. Im just saying it works with some but not with this one.

Robot Mode. Friggin awesome. In fact I think it looks a TON better than the Premium Blackout. It's kinda funny that the Premium Blackout looks more accurate in vehicle mode but the regular Blackout looks more accurate in Robot mode. The head sculpt looks great. It really has a menacing/terrorizing feel to it. Granted Blackout isn't as poseable as I would have liked but in any case still a great figure.Honestly If I was Hasbro. I wouldn't have wasted my time with auto transforming the head but rather put more time into making a gun pop out of his chest like in the movie. That would have been worth the effort.

Over all Great figure. Im extremely happy I made the investment and I guarentee you will be too. I advice against paying over 50 however.

5Blackout's a DECEPTICON Winner!Jun 09, 2007
By Kevin D. Churchill "chooch373"
While I missed the whole Transformers-mania back in the '80s, I am now (re)living it through my 8-year old son. He's built up quite of collection of CYBERTRON and ENERGON figures, but this was our first TF Movie figure and it is AWESOME! While the first transformation to robot-mode was tricky, the end result was well worth the effort. Mine is on display with the Deluxe Scorponok (I'd love to see a Blackout on the Deluxe scale, pretty please -- Hasbro?) and his is already well played with -- the blades can even be removed to be used as swords by Blackout! Highly recommended! Can't wait to see Blackout in action on 7.4.7!

3Blackout is Awesome, but deserves a better toy then thisJul 28, 2007
By PyroDark "Incendiary"
I am a Huge fan of all things transformers, not just generation 1, I like all the different takes on it, including the movie. My favorite from the other takes on the story has been starscream, but I'd say Blackout easily topped him in the movie for me, especially in light of starscream's weird almost goofy redesign for the film. Blackout was totally the first I aimed to get although I'd like to eventually have all the decepticons. I was excited last night when I actually went ahead and got him, though I was a little disappointed with what I ended up getting.

I of course have to first pull it out of the impossible twist-ties [with no scissors cause I'm too impatient to wait till I get home]. Then I load in the little scorponok plastic thing which is totally useless and leaves a giant gap in the back when he's not there, plus he's set on a little plastic tray held by a tiny plastic tab that can be released by a button, or by simple touching it since the hold on the tab is pathetic. I put one of the little rubber bands it's packed with back over it, I don't plan to ever take it off, I could have done without that feature.
then I try out the little spinning rotor gimmick, which would be cool if the rotors kept freely moving rather then stopping dead every time you release the lever for a second to let it retract again. then I figure alright lets transform it, that at least should be good. I'll say it definitly looks nice in both robot and helicopter modes, he stands up well with help of the tail on his back, but transformation was not that fun. first of all you might as well just take the top/back chunk off entirely until he's done transforming, to get the rotors out of the way. Then as you transform you'll come across a new "Automorph Tecnology" which is just another stupid gimmick that does'nt even work. when you pull [what will be his back] down the head is on a spring that should automatically pop-up, it kinda does but needs some manual help, be careful though not to displace the plastic gear teeth that control this function or his head will refuse to go back into hiding when you transform back. It took me a half an hour to get his head to quit popping back around >.<
Again he looks great in both modes but not quite like his movie version, then again in the movie several little panels quickly disappear into nowhere, pretty hard to recreate in plastic. Especially a tiny little $20 plastic thing. I'm not about to complain about what they changed in the story since G1, but the quality of the toys is really downhill, perhaps more complex now, but also really flimsy, relying on plastic tabs, I wouldn't mind seeing a "Masterpiece" metal/thick plastic Version of all the movie characters to SCALE, blackout is huge and should NOT be the same size as the deluxe scorponok which is supposed to be about as big as the worthless little one that came with him. If he were to scale they may have been able to add complexity that was a little more sturdy and reliable.
I still say If you Loved Blackout, This is the only version so far so he was worth it to me, I just hope for a more "deluxe" version some time.
