Description:

Starscream, renowned traitor and Deception malcontent, is one of the more out-looking robots of the Voyager Class. Starscream?s F-22 Raptor transforms into a bulky apelike robot topped by a bell-shaped semi-insectoid-head. Starscream?s thick, blunt arms are equipped with talon-rimmed revolving missile-launcher appendages. Despite Starscream?s bizarre and monstrous structural design, he boasts a pretty high level of articulation. The movie version Starscream is described as being as vain and as treacherous as his memorable cartoon incarnation. Plying his secret agenda with various acts of subversion and duplicity, Starscream is prissily disdainful of Megatron?s tastes for aggression and direct conflict. Leading a supposed mission to recover the missing Megatron, Starscream yearns to permanently rule the Decepticons, though his attempts to crystallize his position are countermined by the Decepticons, such as Blackout, who remain loyal to Megatron.

4I've owned this for 6 hours and already shot myself 5 timesJul 21, 2007

Although I'd side with the Autobots any day, Starscream has always been my favorite character. While I was disappointed at his diminished role in the film, I still jumped at the chance to buy the new toy.

There is one problem I'd like to point out: As a character, Starcream's treachery is legendary. The toy is not much different. The missile launchers are on a hair trigger, and it's not immediately clear at first where the triggers are until you accidentally fire a missile. This has happened to me while I've been transforming him. As an added bonus, the missiles are brownish-grey in color, which makes attempting to locate them a delight.

Still, in either his robot or F-22 form Starscream is a delight to play with. I'm almost 25 and I nearly reverted back to a 5 year-old, about ready to run around the house and make jet noises. However in transforming into his robot form it took me nearly 10 minutes to figure out the instructions. On the other hand, your child will likely approach this toy with more gusto.

Once you get past these two idiosyncrasies, this, as most transformers toys, should capture the imagination of the user. It's a great nostalgia kick for older people who remember the cartoon, but should be enjoyable to children as well.

4Great toy, if you can get past the redesignJun 16, 2007

My infatuation with Transformers has been rekindled with all the hype from the new movie. There's been a lot of criticism about not staying true to the G1 characters, the most notable being Starscream. I really hated his look until I saw it in motion in the movie trailers. And now, after purchasing this toy, I gotta say that it's really grown on me and suspect it will be popular with a whole new generation of kids.

PROS:
- Really inventive and unique transformation sequence.
- Nice colors...a close representation to the movie version (unlike Voyager Ratchet)
- Relatively good articulation.

CONS:
- Transformed him only a few times and joints are getting pretty loose. Not sure if he'd be able to stand after a few months with a hyper-active kid.
- The tail fins can come off pretty easily if you're not careful but you can snap them back in place easily.
- Paint is chipping already (and I'm pretty careful)
- The buttons that fire the missles are pretty sensitive..make sure the guns aren't loaded when transforming. Why doesn't he have hands?
- Some enthusiasts have complained that Starscream's head and limbs aren't hidden well enough in his alt-mode ("plane mode") but it doesn't bother me.

OVERALL:
If you can accept the fact that the filmmakers wanted to do a complete revamp of a beloved G1 character, then you'll probably like this toy. After playing around with it for a bit, I have a new appreciation for "Monkey-scream"...the transformation is pretty creative. If they stay true to the essence of the character, I can see him winning over old and new fans alike.

5my first starscreamAug 24, 2007

While i've never had anything against the transformers before, i just could never really bring myself to buy any or watch the shows.

but after I saw the new movie, I instantly fell in love with all of them.

I tried to start making a collection with the movie toys, then maybe move on down to some of the older toys, or at least watch the original show.

but the best part of collecting the movie toys is the current in-store and online drought of the movie toys. Luckily for me, I (finally) found a Voyager class Starscream repaint (it's repainted so the colors resemble starscream from the original show. and the head is different and also resembles the older character). It's basically the same toy, but with different colors, and a better head. However, this model is only available at target.

When I took this out of the box, it looked a lot better in person than it did online. it felt sturdy, and I could already tell by looking at it that the transformation would be fun. It's pretty basic, some parts of the instructions aren't very clear, but it's still fun and easy to do once you do it the first time. While I do like the older G1 Starscream design, I still had no problems with the movie design. The legs are still pretty sturdy, they can make for some cool poses, too. His missles do fire off randomly since the triggers are so sensitive, so I would reccoment you take out the missles from the cannons on his arms during the transformation.

He's pretty poseable. His chicken legs are flexible, but his ankles cannot make horizontal turns. this isn't that big of a problem since his feet are relativley big and can hold him up pretty well. his arms are pretty big and bulky, but very poseable for their size. Starscream's head can do a full 360 degree turn, and his head has no vertical movement. At least not with the G1 repaint Starscream I bought.

His alternate mode is very cool looking. You can see his legs stowed away underneath, but you get past it very easily and it doesn't really obstruct the overall look of his alternate F-22 Raptor mode.

Overall, great toy. This is my 6th transformer toy. Very much worth the $20 price tag. It's one of my top favorites out of my movie toys, and my second decepticon. I think I like him more than my Leader Class Optimus Prime, and Prime's my favorite transformer. I would highly reccomend this toy to anyone who likes transformers or who is looking to get into transformers. I would also reccomend you try and track down the Starscream Generation-1 repaint, which is the one I have. The colors are grey, red, and aa kind of navy blue. In my opinion, it looks a lot better than the standard beige type color of the regular Voyager starscream. However, this starscream repaint can only be found at Target stores, like I previously stated, and as of right now isn't available online. I was lucky enough to find 9 of these repaints at my local target, which was EXTREMELLY lucky since all transformers movie toys are pretty impossible to find, especially the G1 repaints.

4Strong Jet, Chicken legsJul 16, 2007

Very cool looking F-22 though a bit bulky. Fun to transform (not to hard), some of the back spoilers are delicate. Rotating firing missiles are a plus. One gripe, when pulling out the legs they come off to easy, but they are made to pop right back on. Like the "inner guts" revealed when wings are pulled apart.

Starscream returns with a new look that is unique and different from the G1 days, but still rocks it like a hurricane!Starscream has always been a favorite character and I think this new design is very cool looking overall.Starscream comes with 6 firing missiles that attach to his missile cannon hands in robot or F-22 Raptor mode. The triggers are very sensitive to fire easily which just makes him more battle ready. He does have three extensions on each hand that can act as fingers if you have a little imagination.I actually own Thundercracker,Skywarp, and Ramjet which are all in the same mold and can say Starscream is just as good or better. The detail is awesome with a very good movie likeness and a good shading of different color tones on the paint job. Also showing the innerworks on the main body has great detail as well. The F-22 Raptor mode is very detailed from cockpit to the tail for very good realisim.Starscream does have some clutter on the bottom in the F-22 raptor mode with the hands underneath while his feet and head show in the back, but this is not a big deal in the overall picture in my opinion. The poseability is very good as well with Starscream being sturdy and able to assume many different poses for acting out battle scenes or displaying where you please. The durability is excellent as well with Starscream being able to take on anything that comes his way.The only thing you have to worry about is the missiles firing, but to solve this in robot form you can store the missiles in holders that fold out from his arms. The transformation level is advanced meaning if you have plenty of experience with transformers there is mid-level difficulty. If you are a parent buying for a child of 5-6 or younger you might have to help some in the process.Honestly Starscream is not as hard as he looks to transform. With some practice and patience all ages should get the hang of it after a few times.I love the G1 Starscream as much as anyone, but overall I think this version is still just as good.Bottom line Starscream is a well-made,high-quality,10 out of 10 transformer all fans and collectors will treasure.I highly recommend Voyager Starscream to all transformer fans and collectors alike.Transformers Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!
