Simple But EffectiveJul 12, 2003

Red Alert is part of a continuing series of Generation 1 Transformer reissues. In car form, he's a strikingly realistic Lamborghini Countach (pretty much every kid's dream car in the 1980s). The only thing detracting from the realism is the fact that he's a Fire Chief's car- how many fire chiefs drive Lamborghini Countaches? His transformation sequence is unbelievably simple- very similar to the Spychangers of the Robots in Disguise line. He also feels much sturdier than many of the other G1 autobot cars, probably because he's got less moving parts. The robot mode is well proportioned- nothing sticks out or anything but as with many G1 figures, articulation is limited. I recommend G1 Red Alert wholeheartedly, and the asking price is not bad at all when you consider how much original examples of this toy are selling for. Now if they'd only reissue Sideswipe- I have a thing for red Countaches...

Red AlertJul 02, 2003
i like red alert as i like all gen 1 transformers. i prefer takara reissues but since hasbro has beat them to red alert i couldnt wait to get one.dont like to sugar coat things so here it is. 1. his head is very hard to move into place from car to robot mode, perhaps the mold hasbro used is messed up. i didnt have this problem with sideswipe resissue from takara, that mold is perfect. 2. the missle launcher had no spring inside making it impossible to fire his rocket. but this common knowledge for anyone buying a hasbor reissue. at least he looks the same as do his weapons as the original. cant say the same for Jazz, starscream, optimas prime, ultra magnus, thundercracker and skywarp. 3. the red police lights on the hood were no glued properly, they were no centered. ...

"Red Alert": "Sideswipe" DiacloneAug 22, 2004
By Mark This toy is exactly like its red-painted counterpart, "Sideswipe", except it is a white Fire Department car with red markings. It transforms exactly the same way and even its weapons are the same (again, except for their color). Red Alert is not difficult to transform. You don't have to turn his torso around 180° and you simply pull his arms out and push them back in (be careful, though - both Red Alert's arms and Sideswipe's arms are fragile and you need to pull them out at the front wheels, or the "shoulders" very gently).
While I am happy with what has already been reissued, I wish Hasbro/Takara would make reissues of other Autobot classic cars, like "Sunstreaker" (Yellow Lamborghini Countach LP500S ("Super Tuning", with exposed rear engine), "Sideswipe" (Red Lamborghini Countach LP500S), "Mirage", (Blue F-1 Ligier JS25 Formula 1 racer) "Wheeljack" (White Lancia Stratos Turbo racing car), "Ironhide" (Red Nissan Onebox van), "Ratchet" (White Toyota Previa (or Nissan Onebox) van/ambulance), "Hound" (Green Army Mitsubishi J59 jeep) and "Trailbreaker" (Black Toyota 4WD Hilux).

I'm telling you Prime, he's after my job!Aug 10, 2003

A very nice reissue, and probably the nicest-looking Diaclone-based G1 car mold. I don't have the original, but I do have Sideswipe, who shares the mold, and Red looks to be a good reproduction. The joints are very tight, so he'll hold firm in either mode for a long time to come, unlike some original figures whose legs collapse on themselves after a little wear(usually the ones with diecast chests). There appears to be no change in the mold - both the gun and the missiles are unchanged from my Sideswipe. A few things to watch out for, though: The windshield is flimsy, as on a lot of the early G1 cars. Be careful when moving it. The doors are also relatively thin and might break. Also the missle launcher snaps onto the shoulder rod _very_ tightly. If you use too much force attaching or removing it, you might break the launcher, the rod, or both. Even with these potential problems, this is still a great figure

A Fragile and Expensive Bit of NostalgiaJul 14, 2004
By Gus the Goldfish Simply put, this is not a toy for children. I actually find it a little surprising that this was meant as a toy for children 20 years ago -- it's just not that durable.
That said, this is a very good reproduction of the original toy, with all its features and flaws. There have been small updates to ensure it meets current safety standards, but it is more or less the same toy.
If you are a bored 30-something with extra cash who wants to recapture a bit of his childhood, then this may appeal to you.
If you are trying to find something for your nephew, you should look at the Transformers: Energon or Transformers: Universe lines.
