Good attempt but not the best version.Jan 11, 2012
By M. Majka So here's the deal on hotshot for any who don't know: He's a yellow sports car originally from the ARMADA line which was part one of the "unicron trilogy". He came with the minicon partner Jolt back in 2003 and even had a removable engine block/gun that could combine with jolt to give him a little extra firepower. So with that out of the way here's the deal with the new version. The redesign of the figure wasnt a bad idea but there are a few key issues. First off the windshield doesnt fully fold away into the legs which is a real irritation considering how clean the rest of the figure tries to look. and second, the wheel panels that sit behind the back hit each other preventing the arms from even resting at the figure's side and force him to have shoulders poking forward like a gorilla or look like a jock pretending to lift weights all the time. next issue is the "mystery" peg holes in the back of his vehicle mode and on his arms. Originally the Henkei (Japanese version) was supposed to have 2 missile launchers that in vehicle mode would become exhaust pipes however there was an issue with choking hazards and thus the figure wasn't allowed to have the launchers in the US version for some odd reason meaning you were paying $13 for an incomplete figure right out of the package whereas the customers who bought the import version got the full experience. Now to add insult to injury a HUGE flaw with the overall design was that the launchers were nothing like the original engine gun and nothing of the type was included with the toy. AND if that wasnt annoying enough, the original armada version had a minicon activated missile launcher that folded up from the back and fired a missile. Now due to the amount of space needed for such a gimmick, the original had very limited articulation and that was something that hasbro and takara wanted to change with the new figure. So with all this in mind we're realizing that this was a very tricky figure that wasnt given enough thought. And the final kicker is this, during BotCon a few years back, the character Dion had a figure release and guess who it was...Yep....Hotshot repainted. However the saving grace here is that at least that version had the missile launchers that were originally excluded from the US release. SO, If you want the character go for Dion. But all the facts aside, I feel that as far as image goes, the core figure and minicon are great! As both a fan of the character and collector of the toys I really enjoy the figure. If I were going to buy one for my 10-13 year old child, I would HIGHLY recommend buying the original Armada toy and not this. The armada toy feels like just that, a toy. Whereas this toy feels more like an attempted collector's homage. I really hope the info here was useful and thank you for reading. And as for anyone who is wondering "Why didnt he talk about the transformation?" or other similar questions, I cant really rate the transformation since I find masterpiece figures easy and my opinion would be jaded from 20 years of tranformers toys. If you are truly curious you can always look at reviews on youtube to see transformations and go to an instructions archive to find the sheet and preview it for yourself. Sorry im not more helpful.

By Jones Spirius This is the worst figure in the classics line. Hot shot turns into a car that does little save roll around and look like a crappy car stuffed with robot parts. Then he turns into a robot with no weapons, a weird visor and a little helicoptor bot that attaches to him in no way improving the figure. This guy is a poor excuse for an autobot soldier and your collection definitely is NOT going to miss this figure.
