 You must read the instructions...Feb 01, 2012

I have read a lot of reviews saying that this toy does not work. Well....we thought the same thing until we read the instructions :/ Ya READ the instructions! You push down on their front claws (gently) and they will walk forward and back. They are cute and my daughter loves them! If your child is rough on toys, then this is probably not the toy for them. They should be gentle on the little things or yes, I am sure they will break pretty easily.

I purchased one of these for each of my daughters. They have played with Zhu Zhu pets in the past and have enjoyed them so I thought this would be a cute gift. I did purchase 2 of the playhouses as well so they would have a place to play with them, however, the Zhu Zhu houses would work also to contain them in a space. I wouldn't mark these as educational toys, just as something silly to do and entertain them. They don't do a whole lot, just run around, back and forth, but their legs move when they go around which is a great feature. I am sure that they would like to expand their collection so I will likely be purchasing more in the future.

This reminds me of a toy that you get in a fast food kid's meal. It's cheaply made, isn't durable and doesn't work more than 50% of the time.

These are similar to Zhu Zhu pets, the main difference being they don't make any noise, and shut themselves off. If you hold down the claw a little longer (a few seconds) they will run around for approx 15-30 seconds. They have some type of sensor to make them reverse direction when they run in to something. The shell comes off pretty easily, and the small toy inside is tiny, so can be easily lost. I would suggest, if your child loses small parts like mine tends to, glue the small bonus toy to the outer post so it stays. (Gluing the shell on is another option, as it falls off at times) Cute and probably of limited duration, but relatively inexpensive and fun to play with a few at a time. Uses small, button cell batteries.

While this toy is rather fragile, it's perfect for girls ages 6 to 12 who tend to play calmly with their toys. It's colorful, helps overcome a fear of "creepy crawlies" and is fascinating to watch as it skitters across the floor or playset.
